Auto Insurance Renewal Checklist
Auto insurance renewal is easy to ignore because the policy usually keeps going. That convenience is useful, but it can also make you renew without noticing a higher price or unclear coverage.
Start with the renewal date
Put the renewal date somewhere you will actually see it. The useful review window usually begins before renewal pressure hits, not after the bill is due.
If you are not sure when the policy renews, check your declarations page, renewal email, carrier app, or billing notice.
Compare premium against the last term
Look at the new premium and compare it with what you paid last term. If you pay monthly, compare monthly to monthly. If you pay every six or twelve months, compare the full term price.
A small change may be normal. A larger increase is a reason to understand what changed and whether review is worth your time.
Check coverage before comparing price
Price only makes sense next to coverage. Liability-only and full coverage policies are not the same. Deductibles, limits, rental coverage, roadside coverage, and uninsured motorist coverage can all change the premium.
